Located inside the JW Marriott Austin at 110 E. 2nd Street, it sits right in the middle of downtown, where Congress Avenue, the city’s entertainment scene, and the steady movement of Austin all meet. The setting makes an immediate impression: polished enough for a proper dinner, relaxed enough for a casual drink or weekend brunch.
What we find most interesting about Corner is its approach to Texas cooking. Rather than leaning entirely on the expected barbecue-and-steak identity, the restaurant focuses on regional ingredients and gives familiar dishes a more contemporary Southern direction. The menu moves comfortably between American breakfast favorites, Texas-inspired plates, burgers, salads, and dishes that bring in the bold flavors associated with the region.
That sense of familiarity with a little room to play shows up across the menu. Shrimp and grits, for example, brings together white cheddar grits, charred corn, blistered tomato, jalapeño, and thick-cut bacon. Breakfast takes a similarly Texas-minded approach, with options ranging from breakfast tacos to smoked brisket eggs Benedict. The food doesn’t appear interested in reinventing every classic. Instead, it finds ways to make recognizable Southern flavors feel at home in a modern downtown setting.
And then there is the part of Corner that makes it feel particularly Austin: the social side of the experience. The patio bar serves Texas-inspired food alongside margaritas and cocktails, while the restaurant’s weekend brunch brings specialty drinks into the mix. During the week, Hora Feliz offers Texan tapas and drink specials, and Taco Tuesday leans into the city’s love affair with tacos and margaritas. These touches make Corner feel less like a restaurant you simply visit for a meal and more like somewhere you can settle into for a while.

That flexibility is one of its strongest qualities. Corner opens early for breakfast and stays open into the evening, with late-night bites extending service on select nights. It also offers indoor and patio seating, along with private dining spaces for gatherings. Being within walking distance of many downtown attractions and SXSW venues adds another layer to its appeal, particularly for visitors looking for somewhere convenient without feeling completely removed from the city around them.
The restaurant has also developed a reputation that extends beyond its hotel setting. OpenTable currently lists Corner at 4.5 stars from more than 1,100 reviews, while its recent recognition includes attention for its Southern American cooking, brunch, atmosphere, and downtown location.
What stays with us about Corner is how naturally it fits into Austin. It doesn’t try to define Texas cuisine with one particular dish or idea. Instead, it brings together regional ingredients, Southern comfort, cocktails, brunch, patio dining, and the easy social energy that makes Austin such a distinctive food city.
Maybe that’s the real appeal of Corner. It gives you plenty of reasons to sit down, but even more reasons not to rush away.
