A surge caused by lightning, utility fluctuations, or even large household appliances can damage multiple devices in seconds. Protecting that investment is just as important as choosing the right technology in the first place.
Smart Home Safety Checklist
Before expanding my smart home ecosystem, I make sure I can answer “yes” to the following:
- Are my outlets and switches in good condition?
- Have I avoided overloading outlets and power strips?
- Is my home’s wiring appropriate for its age and electrical demands?
- Do I have adequate surge protection in place?
- Are all smart devices installed according to manufacturer guidelines?
- Have I addressed any recurring electrical issues before adding new devices?
- Have major electrical upgrades been evaluated by a licensed electrician?
When it comes to electrical work, confidence comes from knowing the job was done correctly. A qualified electrician can identify potential hazards, verify code compliance, and ensure that smart home upgrades enhance safety instead of compromising it.
Once safety concerns are addressed, the final piece of the puzzle is creating a long-term plan that supports future growth without unnecessary costs or headaches.
